Lifestyle Math Is A–G Approved

This Personal Finance Course Does More Than Simply
Meet a Graduation Requirement

California’s new AB 2927 mandate requires every public high school and charter school to offer a stand-alone Personal Finance course by the 2027-2028 school year. With Personal Finance becoming a graduation requirement for the Class of 2031 and beyond, California high schools are asking an important question:

What course materials will we use—and how will this fit into our students’ academic program?

Lifestyle Math provides California schools with an A–G approved model for delivering Personal Finance that meets the standards while advancing two other important student-success priorities:

Personal
Finance
+
Career
Exploration
+
Educational
Planning

Why A–G Approval Matters

Adding a new graduation requirement can create challenges for a high school’s master schedule and for students working to complete all of the coursework to meet the UC/CSU A–G requirements.

A–G approval for a course using Lifestyle Math provides California high schools with an established model for incorporating Personal Finance into their students’ academic program.

How Does a High School Obtain A–G Approval?

A–G approval is requested by a high school using the University of California’s A–G Course Management Portal.

The school submits information that demonstrates the course meets the requirements of the appropriate A–G subject area. Schools can model a submission after an already approved course.

Because Lifestyle Math has already been approved, California high schools have an established framework they can reference as they develop their own submissions.

Keep in Mind
High schools initiate the A–G course approval process
While UC recognizes submissions modeled after already approved courses, schools must ensure each course on its own A–G list reflects how it is delivered on its campus

Don’t Just Meet the Mandate – Make the
Semester Matter

Lifestyle Math teaches the financial topics students need—but doesn’t teach them in isolation. Students begin by envisioning the adult life they want and calculating their personal Lifestyle Number, which is:

The income they’ll need to support that lifestyle.

Once students know their Lifestyle Number, the connection becomes personal.

LIFESTYLE INCOME CAREER EDUCATION MOTIVATION TO ACHIEVE and persist with post-secondary education and training

Instead of simply being told that education matters, students discover why it matters to the future they want.

During your dual enrollment Personal Finance course, students begin to explore careers that will support their lifestyle goals and then identify the education, credentials, or training they’ll need.

THE RESULT: Students arrive on your campus with comprehensive education plans connected to a career that supports the future lifestyle they want. This provides the intrinsic motivation to succeed and complete.
